Pokemon: Detective Pikachu recently released in theatres. The live-action movie is chock-full of
Pokemon, though not enough screentime to substantially feature every single one. Instead, the film does make reference to
Pokemon creatures which exist in the universe beyond the film itself. Some of these other Pokemon being of the "Legendary" variety.
The only Legendary Pokemon to feature in the film literally and physically is Mewtwo. However, there are many Easter Eggs which account for multiple others.
Early in the film, Detective Pikachu and Tim Goodman are in what is essentially the latter's childhood bedroom. An eagle-eyed fan of the franchise would notice that there are multiple posters on the wall which feature Latios and Latias from
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, Rayquaza from
Emerald and Reshiram and Zekrom from
Black and White.
Later in the film, Tim and the titular Pokemon find themselves in, the visionary behind Ryme City, Howard Clifford's office wherein you can spot statues of three different Legendary Pokemon: Dialga, Palkia, and Arceus. Even later in the film, during Ryme City's Pokemon Parade, there are giant balloon versions of Mew (of
Pokemon Red and Blue) and Lugia (of
Pokemon Gold and Silver).
While right now these are just fun nods to the Legendary Pokemon, perhaps as the live-action universe continues to expand, they'll grow into something more - foreshadowing perhaps.
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry's former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
Detective Pikachu is set to arrive in theatres on May 10th, 2019.
