The Super Mario Bros. Movie hops into theaters next week and GameStop is partnering with Fandango to offer free tickets to the film. Well, it's sort of free.
For a limited time, you can get a "free" ticket to see The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Fandango (up to $15 total ticket value) when you spend $75 or more on select Mario items at GameStop. So technically, you're still spending money, but if you want some Mario games or merchandise, then the ticket is basically some added value.
You can view all of the items available for the promotion here. As you'd expect, most of the Mario games are featured, including Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. Popular spin-offs like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Mario Party Super Stars are also featured. Even games that aren't specifically Mario-focused but feature the iconic plumber are included, such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch.
Even pre-owned Mario games from other platforms like the Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS are eligible for the promotion. This includes titles like Yoshi's Crafted World, Luigi's Mansion 3, and more.
With the cost of games, you really only need to purchase two or three games to get $75 worth of value and get your ticket. But even merchandise counts. Selection action figures and Mario-branded accessories are offered as well.
The free ticket offer is available both online and in-store. Once you spend $75, you'll get a coupon code to redeem at Fandango.com or through the Fandango mobile app.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie is set to arrive exclusively in theaters on April 5. The CG-animated adaptation of the beloved Nintendo IP stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Jack Black as Bowser, as Toad, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
The movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies) from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel (Minions: The Rise of Gru).
For those skeptical of Pratt's performance as the iconic plumber, the actor has some advice before you criticize. Despite some of the casting backlash, the animated feature is still expected to bring in between $85 million to $90 from its Wednesday through Sunday debut weekend. There are some estimates that even predict the movie could debut to triple figures which isn't unreasonable given the power of the IP.
