1000 Player Battle Royale Game MAVERICK: PROVING GROUNDS Cancelled

Was it too ambitious? Only time will tell, but Mavericks: Proving Grounds is gone. The 1000 player battle royale game will never see the light of day.

The gaming industry right now is being overrun with Battle Royale games, with many falling by the wayside in less than a month of being on the market. However, one publisher known as Automaton Games recently decided to cancel their game, Mavericks: Proving Grounds.

You see, this game garnered a lot of buzz at one point because it promised to deliver a Battle Royale mode with 1,000 maximum players. No other Battle Royale game on the market right now does that in any shape or form.

Now, according to the developers themselves, the game is no longer in development due to lack of funding. That also appears to suggest the studio is shutting down as well.

Not everyone will remember, but Battle Royale games weren't the first to support large player pools. MAG, the PlayStation 3 shooter from back in the day, supported up to 256 players, and it was a lot of fun at the time.

Maybe one of the big developers will attempt to make a first-person shooter game with 1000 players.
