There's a chance you remember the "
Too Much Water" controversy from a couple of years ago. In case you don't, it's a direct quote from an IGN review of
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Sapphire cited as one of the drawbacks of the gameplay experience. While complying about the lack of inland areas might not be the most bizarre critique of all time, the fact that
Sapphire's fictional region is actually consisting of many islands and waterways made the situation even funnier, ultimately becoming a popular meme.
It looks like we may have another "
TMW" situation on our hands, as
AC7:
Skies Unknown Producer Kazutoki Kono doesn't pretend that IGN's review of Namco’s all-new game isn't quite baffling. Today, Kono took to Twitter to say "
Oh...my god. Why does IGN US’s Ace Combat 7 [video] review... Why do you use “Normal ”flight system...Why don’t you use “expert”? Oh, I'm disappointed [in] you..."
While
AC7 is getting glowing reviews left and right (sitting at an 82% average score on Metacritic with 32 review counted so far), IGN gave the title a 7/10, complaining about its gameplay mechanics, such as using bombs to attack ground targets and the apparent lack of a training mode and advanced tutorials. The fact that the reviewer had no idea how to change the game's settings may come as a disappointment, but there's a silver lining, as this new critique wasn't plagiarized, at least this time.
