Information about a brand-new Star Wars game was leaked before Electronic Arts even got the chance to announce it. A few days later, Electronic Arts confirmed this information, and revealed that developer Motive was working on Star Wars: Squadrons.

While the developers did share an exciting announcement trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons, we didn't get to see any proper gameplay about this promising Motive-developed new title, although Electronic Arts did promise that we'd finally get some gameplay during the special EA Play presentation.

Today is that day, and Electronic Arts has delivered big time, releasing an amazing gameplay trailer for Star Wars: Squadrons that not only shares some gameplay, but also reveals some details about the game itself, and there's actually a lot to love here.

As per the new gameplay trailer, Star Wars: Squadrons will be featuring a story mode that will see players actually creating two different characters — one fighting for the Rebels, and one fighting for the Empire — which gill give them both perspectives of this new story that takes place after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.

One thing to note is that Star Wars: Squadrons will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the game will fully support cross-platform gameplay, which is great news when considering that the game will mainly focus on multiplayer after players are done with the campaign.

The developers at Motive have also got some great news for those who own VR devices, as they have revealed that the full game will be supporting VR from beginning to end, as well as on multiplayer mode; giving players the definitive, and most immersive Star Wars experience yet.

Check it out:

Buckle up, take full control of starfighters such as the X-wing and TIE fighter, and feel the adrenaline of strategic first-person 5v5 multiplayer dogfights alongside your squadron. In a fateful campaign set near the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, learn what it means to be a pilot in a thrilling STAR WARS™ single-player story. The New Republic fights for freedom. The Empire demands order. We need you to join the galaxy’s finest.

Star Wars: Squadrons will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on the 2nd of October.
