Released in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy was a critical and commercial hit for Warner Bros. Games. The game received a couple of free updates since then, but no major expansion has been released as of yet. That could be changing soon though.
A new report from Insider Gaming claims that a Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition is currently in development. While details are still light, the expansion is said to add around 10-15 hours of additional content, including a new story quest, side quests, activities, and outfits.
While all of this new content will already be included in the Definitive Edition, those who already own Hogwarts Legacy will be able to purchase this additional content as a separate DLC. It's suggested that the DLC will cost between $20 and $30 on its own.
Hogwarts Legacy was released at the beginning of 2023 and has reportedly sold over 24 million copies as of January 2024. It's currently the tenth best-selling game in the United States for 2024.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels said that a "success to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road. So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”
With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League failing to meet Warner Bros. sales expectations, Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition could provide a much-needed boost to the company's bottom line in 2025 —especially with a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy still presumably years away.
Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game inspired by the Wizarding World franchise from J.K. Rowling. There's no word on when this rumored Hogwarts Legacy Definitive Edition or DLC will be announced. But with a tentative 2025 launch date, it could be sometime this year — perhaps even at the annual Game Awards show in December.
