Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm Games announced today. Originally released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the critically acclaimed and Grammy-award-winning action-adventure game serves as a sequel to 2019's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Set five years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order, the game follows Cal Kestis — now a stronger and more experienced Jedi Knight — and his increasingly desperate fight for survival as the galaxy descends further into darkness.
"Pushed to the edges of the galaxy by the Empire, Cal will find himself surrounded by threats new and familiar," the synopsis reads. "As one of the last surviving Jedi Knights, Cal is driven to make a stand during the galaxy’s darkest times — but how far is he willing to go to protect himself, his crew, and the legacy of the Jedi Order?"
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will make the leap to PS4 and Xbox One on Tuesday, September 17. Anyone who pre-orders the game on these platforms prior to its launch will receive free cosmetic items, including the Hermit Cosmetic (inspired by Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi™), Hermit Lightsaber Set, and Combustion Blaster Set.
EA promises that the game will feature "a variety of optimizations aimed at maximizing the hardware capabilities of the consoles" but did not go into specific detail. The price, however, is reflective of a last-gen release as it will cost $49.99 on PS4 and Xbox One.
In addition to the PS4 and Xbox One launch, EA also announced that the PC version will receive an update in the coming weeks. The new update "will bring enhancements to the game’s technical performance, controls and more, plus a variety of quality-of-life improvements." This should be a very welcomed patch as the PC version specifically received criticism for a slew of technical issues, including a poor frame rate that averaged 35 frames per second and sometimes dipped as low as 15-20 frames in cutscenes.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor featured quite a few improvements over its predecessor and included all-new abilities, traversal options, and combat styles for players to unlock. The game still maintains its cinematic combat system, but with new Force abilities and lightsaber fighting styles that could be leveraged to strategically take on an expanded variety of enemies.
As a whole, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor received generally favorable reviews from critics. The game's visuals were especially praised, although many felt that the story was a little bland.
