In a very interesting turn of events, Games Radar reports that all of the historical sequences in the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie will be in Spanish. What's surprising about this is that it's become commonplace for Hollywood blockbusters like this to just have the cast speak English (often with a dodgy accent), but the name of the game in the video game adaptation is clearly going to be subtitles!
"I just love the fact [production company] New Regency embraced it," director Justin Kurzel explains. "We did play around with English as well, but it was really obvious what you wanted as soon as you went back and started speaking beautiful Spanish. It really adds an exoticness and richness to the film." Despite the fact that Assassin's Creed is bringing a popular adventure series to the big screen, realism and historic authenticity seems to be a big priority, and may very well help this one stand out.
After all, we've yet to see a great video game movie, but the signs are pointing to Assassin's Creed changing that. Hopefully. We'll find out when it's released in theaters this coming December...
