Data miners have uncovered files that point to multiplayer and PvP modes for Assassin's Creed Shadows, with test maps and everything being found. Ubisoft, in typical fashion has remained radio silent, neither confirming or denying the possibility of a multiplayer mode of the controversial AC entry.
X user Totocko97 uncovered files in the latest bootstrap file of the game that points to multiplayer stuff, including a PvP mode, though, it's hard to exactly say what that would entail. Odds are, Ubi has remained silent as they're working on the Claws of Awaji expansion, which is due out later this year, but they're also doing the best thing for a game dev to do and say nothing that would prove the existance of how legit the rumor is.
The rumor surfaced surrounding multiplayer modes before launch, following the delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows, it was confirmed that said multiplayer was not the reason behind the delay.
As said before, Ubisoft has remained silent on the rumor, but it would make sense to introduce multiplayer modes in the game that includes two protagonists. That said, it's hard to say how these multiplayer modes would play out, as the characters are vastly different in play style and mission type. The controversial inclusion of Yasuke as the more combat-heavy playable character to the more traditional assasin play style of Naoe made sure that both types of AC fans weren't left behind.
As of late, Assassin's Creed has become more of a general appeal franchise, with its more niche stealth focus fizzling away to more of a secondary thing. This has led to a divide between fans; those that like a more combat-heavy Assassin's Creed game and those who like to stay in the shadows (pun not intended) and take out enemies one at a time.
In terms of multiplayer and PvP, though, if Assassin's Creed Shadows does have it, this would mark a significant thing for the franchise, as the IP hasn't had any sort of multiplayer since 2013 with Assassin's Creed Unity. That said, it probably won't be for a while, as said, they're probably focusing its AC team on Claws of Awaji, which introduces more content, armor, and the whole shabang. It's possible that after that releases the update will be further worked on to refine it, as we're sure Ubisoft doesn't want to end up fumbling the multiplayer again.
