Michael Fassbender's Callum Lynch and his Assassin ancestor are front and center in this new batch of stills from the upcoming video game adaptation set for release in three months. Directed by Justin Kurzel, the film also stars Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, Ariane Labed and Jeremy Irons. With
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hitting theaters on December 16, does
Assassin's Creed, premiering on December 21, stand a chance at box office success?
Previously, Ubisoft revealed that they view the upcoming film as an
opportunity to promote the Assassin's Creed brand not necessarily as a venture to generate profit. Whether 20th Century Fox agrees with that sentiment is another matter.
Nevertheless, the film is opting for a circular adaptation of the game series, with the movie introducing
a new protagonist and story that runs parallel to events and key moments in the video game series. Whether this approach proves more successful than producing a straight up adaptation of a particular game in the series is an intriguing proposition.
