Ubisoft has confirmed that there will be no new
Assassin's Creed this/next year (depending where you live), meaning that the series will almost certainly return in 2020. According to the most recent Reddit leak, the next
AC is titled
Adder (you can see its alleged logo below), serving as a sequel to 2017's
AC: Origins, with the return of the game's main protagonists and lovers Bayek and Aya in supporting roles.
According to Redditor AnonymousLeaker2020,
AC: Adder would take place in Roman Empire, allowing the player to explore ancient Roma (but in a much bigger and more detailed playground than the
AC: Brotherhood one) and beyond, as this rumored collaboration between Ubisoft Montreal and Quebec would supposedly give you a chance to recruit assassins across the Italian peninsula. The Redditor also claims that
Adder would be written by Melissa MacCoubrey, the narrative director for
Odyssey.
While it all may sound pretty good, the bad news is that the leak is almost certainly fake, at least according to Kotaku's Jason Schreier, who had given us true information on
AC: Syndicate long before Ubisoft officially revealed the title.
"I don't think this is even remotely true," Schreier said on ResetEra. Considering that he already knows where the series will go next (as revealed during a recent video chat with YouTuber YongYea), you can trust his claim and still hope that Ubisoft will take us to Japan in 2020.
