SEGA Announces PERSONA 4 REVIVAL Release Window And It’s Not Coming Anytime Soon

Persona 4 Revival, the highly anticipated reimagining of Atlus's classic RPG, was revealed earlier this month, but fans will be waiting quite a while until it's released.

At the Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month, Atlus and SEGA officially announced Persona 4 Revival, the highly anticipated reimagining of the classic RPG. The long-awaited remake is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and Steam, but no release date was provided.

However, SEGA's recently released financial report has now provided a vague launch window, and it sounds like we may be waiting a while before its release. According to the FY2025 year-end report, Persona 4 Revival isn't expected to launch until fiscal year 2027 or later. This puts the game's release anytime after April 1, 2026, at the earliest.

Persona 4 Revival has been one of the most anticipated remakes with rumors existing for months prior to the game's official reveal. Fans were treated to a brief teaser trailer during the Xbox Games Showcase, which highlighted the game's updated visuals within the town of Inaba.

Persona 4 Revival intertwines the journey of self-discovery and the exploration of youth through encounters with the occult and an investigation into a string of murders, all within a critically acclaimed, classic RPG experience—reborn in a new form!

In the rural Japanese town of Inaba, the once sleepy streets receive a  cold wake-up call when a mysterious serial killer strikes. Also, what's with the rumor of a mysterious TV channel appearing only on rainy nights? A whirlwind of surprises and otherworldly adventures will make the next year of your high school life anything but ordinary!

With Persona 4 Revival not expected until April 2026, it feels like a major dagger to the heart for JRPG fans who are eagerly awaited Persona 6. When announcing Persona 4 Revival, P-Studio Director Kazuhisa Wada briefly hinted at the future of the franchise. While he did not specifically mention Persona 6 by name, he did state:

Additionally, we are actively preparing for the future development of the Persona series as a studio. We are working hard to meet the expectations of fans around the world and our work is progressing well. Please stay tuned for more updates.

It's possible that the game is in early pre-production with a small team working on it right now, but I assume the major focus is on Persona 4 Revival right now. This could mean that Persona 6 may not arrive until well after 2026.

Released in Japan in 2016 nd worldwide in April 2017, Persona 5 was the last mainline game in the franchise. Since then, there have been several spin-offs, enhanced editions, and remakes, but no new numbered entry. Persona 5: The Phantom X, a mobile/PC spin-off, is scheduled to launch on iOS, Android, and Windows on June 26, 2025.
