Ubisoft isn't expecting huge returns on the live-action Assassin's Creed film starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard. At least, not in a monetary sense. Instead, they're viewing the film as one big marketing campaign. "We are not going to earn a lot of money from it," said Ubisoft Europed chief Alain Corre. He added, "It is a lot more a marketing thing, it is also good for the image of the brand. Although we will make some money, it is not the purpose of this movie. The purpose is to bring Assassin’s Creed to more people. We have our core fans, but what we would like is to put this franchise in front of a lot more people who, maybe, will then pick up future Assassin’s Creed games."
Interesting words, although one has to think Fox paid Ubisoft at least a modicum fee for licensing rights. So while Ubisoft may not make a huge sum from the movie itself, it's likely they've already made a nice figure upfront. Will you be seeing the film when it hits theaters in December? It will definitely have some steep competition in the form of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
