Well, this came out of nowhere! While we've heard rumblings of a Castlevania TV series, Netflix announced today that it's on the way to the online streaming service in 2017. However, it wasn't exactly a reveal accompanied by a great deal of fanfare as the news was buried in a press release listing their context for this year. All it said that "Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017."
So, what do we know? Well, it's thought that the animated series is coming from the team of Adi Shankhar and Frederator (Adventure Time) to deliver what he's called a "super violent" adaptation.
Netflix is a good fit for the property, and Shankhar is no stranger to the world of video games and comic books after working on Dredd and the critically acclaimed fan-made Power/Rangers. Castlevania meanwhile follows various members of the Belmont family, as they partake in the family tradition of killing vampires, specifically the evil Lord Alucard. For those unfamiliar with the series, it’s up to you to look into what the antagonist’s name spells when you write it backwards. What do you guys think?
