In a recent interview with Kotaku,
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Director, Hara Ryosuke, explained that this game will be very different in comparison to other Dragon Ball games released in the past. The reason? Fights will be very unbalanced, and it will be all very intentional.
According to Ryosuke, the focus in recent games like
Dragon Ball FighterZ and the
Dragon Ball Xenoverse series, for instance, focus more on player vs player, which obviously means that characters need to be well-balanced in order fopr the developers to offer players fair fights against each other.
"
A lot of the recent Dragon Ball games have put the focus really heavily on the player-vs.-player aspect, where both characters are somewhat on equal footing. The footing won’t be equal," revealed Ryosuke while putting emphasis on the fact that boss battles will be even more unbalanced.
"
The boss fights are intentionally unbalanced just to depict that difference in strength between where Goku is and where these bosses are. The idea is to immerse the player into what Goku is feeling in those different moments. There are going to be a lot of battles where the enemy will throw a barrage of ki blasts that just fill the screen. Nappa has this massive explosion attack that also blows up an entire area."
While this may sound like a flaw in the development of
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, this is actually a very smart move; considering that every single one of the fights Goku's been in have always been incredibly difficult for him at the beginning.
Battles being intentionally unbalanced adds a sense of "realism" within the world of
Dragon Ball, and will make some fights in
Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot frustrating, sure, but also accurate to the series in a way we haven't seen before.
