Funcom has officially launched Dune: Awakening on Steam, marking a major milestone for what is being called the biggest Dune game ever made and one of the most ambitious survival MMOs in years. The game went live on June 10, following a successful 5-day early access period for Deluxe and Ultimate Edition buyers. To help with the full launch celebration, they released a new trailer for fans to enjoy, check it out down below:

According to Funcom, the game saw a peak concurrency of 117,087 players on Steam during the early access phase alone, a number which should easily climb significantly higher now that the full public release has begun. Early player reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with Dune: Awakening currently holding a solid 89% user rating on Steam.

While PC players can experience the brutal beauty of Arrakis now, console players won’t be left out in the dark for too long. Funcom confirmed that Dune: Awakening will arrive on PlayStation and Xbox in 2026, bringing the survival-MMO hybrid to a wider audience.

A Survival Game with No Microtransactions or Subscriptions

Dune: Awakening breaks from many modern trends by offering a one-time purchase model with no subscription fees or microtransactions. Players can buy optional DLCs, but the base game comes complete out of the box no Early Access caveats or pay-to-win systems here.

Last week, Funcom showcased the game during Summer Game Fest, premiering a new launch trailer. Today, they released a celebratory supercut trailer, combining highlights from all major reveals leading up to the launch. It’s a cinematic nod to both long-time Dune fans and the new wave of survival gamers. Check out the trailer for SGF down below:

Life and Power on Arrakis

In Dune: Awakening, players are thrust into the brutal, mystical world of Arrakis. The story begins under the threat of the Reverend Mother’s Gom Jabbar, and players are tasked with surviving in a deadly environment shaped by ancient traditions and power struggles. As the story unfolds, players will walk the path of the Fremen, uncovering secrets buried by the sands and answering the haunting question: "Who are you?"

Whether aligning with the noble House Atreides or the ruthless House Harkonnen, players will have the opportunity to impact the shared world through faction-based PvP, trading, and large-scale events.

From crafting ornithopters to forming alliances in the brutal deserts, Dune: Awakening bridges survival and MMO elements in a way that few games in the genre have managed before. Funcom’s bold bet appears to be paying off. And with console versions still on the horizon, the saga of survival and power on Arrakis is just getting started. Will you be joining the fight?
