Earth Atlantis is a 2D side-scroller shooter from independent studio Pixel Perfex and published by Headup Games. The game initially came out in early 2017 for the Nintendo Switch, winning awards such as the Best in Show at the
Vermillion Gate Award and Excellence in Art at the
BIC Festival in Korea.
As reported by
Gematsu, via an announcement by publisher Headup Games,
Earth Atlantis will be coming out for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on the 1st of June. Among the new features, the game will be able to be played using the D-pad for steering the ship, as well as re-balanced gameplay mechanics.
Players take the role of a
Hunter on a planet Earth that has been covered almost in its entirety by water and where machines have adopted the shape and form of marine animals. It may be a simple premise but the game shines for its gameplay and beautiful art style that reminisces the old sketching visual style from the 14th century's ocean exploration.
Earth Atlantis is a love letter to classic 2D side-scroller shooters like
Gradius,
Axelay,
R-Type and many other awesome games from that era and genre. The game features original side-scrolling with monster-hunting objectives, unique old-sketching style, Quest and Hunter game modes, 4 playable ships each with unique weapons, and 25 large monsters to hunt, plus 4 enemy ships to defeat and 9 special events to complete.
"The Great Climate Shift" struck at end of the 21st century. Ninety six percent of the earth’s surface is underwater. Human civilization has fallen. Machines have adopted the shape and form of marine animals. The ocean is full of creature-machine hybrid monsters. You are a “Hunter” and the new journey begins…
