David may be dead, but there are still plenty of stories to be told in Night City. It's been nearly three years since Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was released. The anime adaptation based on CD Projekt Red's beloved video game received widespread claim when it debuted back in 2022. But like most Netflix projects, there was worry that it would be a one-and-done series when there was no mention of a second season for years.
That changed this weekend when CD Projekt Red announced at Anime Expo 2025 that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is officially in production at studio TRIGGER, the same animation studio behind the critically acclaimed first season.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is being billed as a "new standalone 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077— a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge."
The season was announced alongside poster artwork by studio TRIGGER animator Ichigo Kanno.
Kai Ikarashi (Little Witch Academia animation director) will direct Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, taking over the reins from Season 1 director Hiroyuki Imaish. Ikarashi served as the Animation Director for Episode 6 in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which is widely regarded as one of the best in the series, earning praise for its bold style and intense animation.
Ikarash is joined by Kanno Ichigo (Promare, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka (Gurren Lagann, Promare) as the one responsible for the screenplay adaptation.
“David’s story might be over, but there’s plenty more to discover in Night City. And to again have the legendary animation studio TRIGGER along for the ride makes us at CD PROJEKT RED so excited to introduce a raw, real chronicle of redemption and revenge, something unlike what we’ve done before,” said Sztybor, Showrunner, Story Writer, and Producer on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2.
Following the panel, CD Projekt Red released a brief teaser video online.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 doesn't yet have a release date, but as the tweet above mentions, it will release when it's ready.
