CYBERPUNK 2077 Is Getting A Live-Action Adaptation From Company Behind MR. ROBOT And TRUE DETECTIVE

Cyberpunk 2077's fanbase has only grown since its initial, disastrous, release and it's now been confirmed that a live-action adaptation is in the works from a media company with serious credibility...

CD Projekt Red, the video game developers behind The Witcher franchise, has announced that they're collaborating with Anonymous Content to develop a live-action project set in the futuristic world of Cyberpunk 2077

The media company is behind Emmy-winning series such as True Detective and Mr. Robot, as well as Academy Award-winning films including The Revenant and Spotlight. That immediately gives the project a fair bit of credibility, though it's said to be "at an early development stage" right now.

In fact, the hunt for a writer has only just started, and while that means we have zero plot details, CD Projekt Red has confirmed this movie or TV show will be "a brand-new story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077." So, not a straightforward adaptation of V's story.

The developers are working directly with Anonymous Content Studios' Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and Chief Creative Officer David Levine. The latter counts True Detective, Westworld, True Blood, and Game of Thrones among his credits after an executive role at HBO.

Garrett Kemble, David Levine, Ryan Schwartz, and Bard Dorros will produce on behalf of Anonymous Content alongside Charlie Scully. Anonymous Content's AC Studios will serve as the studio on the project which will be developed in close collaboration with the Cyberpunk 2077 creative team.

After numerous delays, Cyberpunk 2077 was finally released in 2020 on consoles and PC in what proved to be a glitch-ridden, largely unfinished state. The visuals failed to live up to what was promised and the backlash was immense. Since then, however, improvements have been made and its popularity has only increased.

For example, CD Projekt Red recently released spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty, which starred actors Keanu Reeves and Idris Elba respectively. Will the former reprise his role as Johnny Silverhand in this movie or TV show? We certainly hope so.

Netflix has previously released an anime series based on Cyberpunk 2077 titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It's unclear whether the streaming platform will be involved with this adaptation, though they do currently hold the rights to The Witcher.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world, action-adventure set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and world around you.

Keep checking back here for updates on this adaptation as we have them.
