They fly now?!
They fly now!
The latest update for Helldivers 2 has been released, and it seems it has packed a terrifying surprise. The bugs fly!
Although there's no mention of these new flying bat-like creatures in the patch notes, players are sharing footage of encounters with this new enemy. According to Windows Central, this new bug type, which is called Shriekers in the game, is found in maps where a Shrieker Lair is one of the side objectives. The new enemy emits a high-pitched screech as it dive-bombs players and slashes at them with its talons.
Oh weird, there are three mushrooms. Oh hello there, Cock Rock. OH SWEET LIBERTY! WHAT ARE THOSE!??

Developer Arrowhead Game Studios has not acknowledged this new enemy but Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt did post a very tongue-in-cheek message on social media following player reports.
"I've heard rumors of flying bugs in Helldivers 2. I want to officially refute such preposterous claims," Pilestedt wrote. "Everyone knows that "Bugs can't fly".
"And I'm not alone in thinking this," he continued. The Ministry of Truth agrees that this is propaganda from bug sympathizers that want to brainwash good people. #Lies"
The addition of Shriekers comes shortly after the Helldivers 2 community unlocked heavily armored mechs which come equipped with a chaingun and rocket launcher.
Arrowhead Studios continues to update Helldivers 2 quite frequently. The game's newest Premium Warbond, Cutting Edge, will be released on PS5 and PC on March 14.
"Packed with high-voltage vibes, Cutting Edge gives you the chance to enhance your loadout of liberty with ultra-futuristic armour, guns that spit lightning, super stylish capes and epic emotes," the Warbond's description reads.
Helldivers 2 is a cooperative third-person shooter. It's a direct sequel to 2015's top-down shooter, with the biggest change being a new third-person, over-the-shoulder view.
Since its release in February, Helldivers 2 has been met with rave response from critics and fans alike. The game sold over one million units within its first month of release and continues to be one of the top trending games. Helldivers 2 is only available on PlayStation and PC.
