Developer NetEase Games has revealed a new trailer for their upcoming team-based shooter Marvel Rivals spotlighting the playable character Spider-Man.
It's dubbed a "reveal" trailer which is a bit odd considering Spider-Man was one of the 19 characters initially confirmed for the game during its reveal. Additionally, he's already been featured and playable in the game's previous Closed Alpha Test. So it's not really a new character reveal, but more of a spotlight trailer.
In any case, the trailer does come at a good time as NetEase just recently announced plans to host a Closed Beta Test for Marvel Rivals. With the upcoming beta expanding to players in North America, Europe, and Asia, there will surely be a large number of new players, some of whom may not be familiar with the game's version of Spider-Man.
"You know the story, after a radioactive spider granted Peter Parker his arachnid powers, he started to shoulder the great responsibility of protecting everyone in his friendly neighborhood. While Peter never leaves home without his endless stream of quips and inexhaustible optimism, the crisis of the Timestream Entanglement puts him at odds with some of his greatest allies and unforgettable foes. But, with the Web of Life and Destiny hanging on by a thread, every amazing Spider-Totem and Web-Warrior will need to join the fray, even those that forgot their suit at home..."
Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals feels like he's been pulled directly from the pages of the comic books with his moveset largely revolving around his web shooters. It looks like web-slinging will be the most common form of map traversal, but he can also run along the sides of buildings. He appears to be mostly a melee-based character with the ability to web and pull enemies towards him to close the distance. In addition to his combat, the trailer also reveals some of his alternative costumes.
The Marvel Rivals Closed Beta test kicks off this month on July 23rd and will run until August 5th. The beta will be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with sign-ups for console testing now open. Those who want to play the beta on PC can visit the Marvel Rivals Steam store page on July 20th and click "Request Access."

NetEase hasn't announced a release date for Marvel Rivals yet, but the fact we are having a closed beta this month could indicate the game will launch later this year.
