According to Capcom's new financial report, the Japanese company is stronger than ever as Monster Hunter: World has become the biggest hit in Capcom history, selling 7.9 million units worldwide, including both, physical and digital sales. The gold edition of Resident Evil 7 also did not disappoint the publisher, as it sold 1.6 million units despite being a catalog title released the previous year.
The future also looks great as both Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 (remake) are the most anticipated games of the next year. Naturally, Capcom understands that those single-player-focused titles probably won't beat MH:W's sales result, but it doesn't change the fact that the publisher's expectations are high. Both titles are expected to be "growth drivers" that will allow Capcom to release "approximately three major titles each year," as written in the company's latest financial report.
Capcom also plans to support their games for a long time, extending the sales life of these titles to 3–4 years with additional content and pricing strategies. You can also expect more western motives in Capcom games as the overseas sales represents approximately 85% of the total market. It looks like the future of Capcom's biggest brands is safe, but it's probably for the best to forget about Deep Down.
The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns, completely re-built from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.
Resident Evil 2 will return reimagined for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019.
