Capcom has recently announced that the critically acclaimed
Resident Evil 2 has been outsold by their also critically acclaimed
Resident Evil 2 remake; managing to sell a very impressive 5 million copies since its launch on the 25th of January this year.
It is also worth mentioning that the
Resident Evil 2 remake sold 4 out of those 5 million units
within its first month since release, making it one of the best-selling titles in the
Resident Evil franchise, as well as one of the fastest-selling games.
The best-selling game in the franchise is the fairly divisive Resident Evil 5, with an overwhelming 11 million units sold.
The original
Resident Evil 2 was first released in January of 1998, and has managed to sell a very impressive 4.96 million units as of February of this year, when Capcom revealed sales numbers for every single one of the titles in the
Resident Evil series.
Capcom's
Resident Evil 2 remake has become one of the best-regarded titles in the series, and sales numbers actually helped the developers make the decision to remake
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Considering that before
Resident Evil 7 the series was on an all-time low, it is nice to see it making a comeback in full force.
The genre-defining masterpiece Resident Evil 2 returns, completely re-built from the ground up for a deeper narrative experience. Using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Resident Evil 2 offers a fresh take on the classic survival horror saga with breathtakingly realistic visuals, heart-poundingly immersive audio, a new over-the-shoulder camera, and modernized controls on top of gameplay modes from the original game.
Resident Evil 2 is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Steam).
