Ever since Capcom released Resident Evil 7, the long-running survival-horror series has seen a solid return to form, but it was the remake of Resident Evil 2 that convinced players that the developers had finally understood what even made the series great in the first place; its survival-horror aspect.

Resident Evil 2 was critically praised for slightly reimagining the original game, but also managing to bring back all of the elements that made it a survival-horror through and through; getting rid of the mindless action seen in other titles like the best-selling Resident Evil 5 or the divisive Resident Evil 6.

The Resident Evil 3 remake was released in April of this year, and within its first days since release Capcom announced that the game had sold a very impressive 2 million copies; unfortunately, the game hasn't really sold that well since.

As of the 30th of June, official information has revealed that Resident Evil 3 has only sold 2.7 million copies; 12 weeks after the game hit store shelves worldwide; trailing behind Resident Evil 7. To better illustrate, in 9 weeks Resident Evil 7 had managed to sell over 4.2 million copies, while Resident Evil 2 had sold, within the same time span, 4.2 million copies.

Keeping this into account, Resident Evil 3 has the mainline Resident Evil series' lowest launch sales in well over a decade after Resident Evil 5 was released in March of 2009. It is also worth mentioning that Resident Evil 5 is the best-selling title in the series's history with over 10 million copies sold as of 2019; with 5 million of those made within its first 3 months after its release.

While Resident Evil 3 was received positively by fans and critics, the game has definitely not resonated as well as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 7 before it. The COVID-19 pandemic could've affected initial sales too, but Capcom hasn't attributed this to the game's poor sales.

Jill Valentine is one of the last remaining people in Raccoon City to witness the atrocities Umbrella performed. To stop her, Umbrella unleashes their ultimate secret weapon; Nemesis! Also includes Resident Evil Resistance, a new 1 vs 4 online multiplayer game set in the Resident Evil universe where four survivors face-off against a sinister Mastermind.

Resident Evil 3 is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC(Steam, Microsoft Windows).
