Netflix has announced this morning that a live-action TV series based on Capcom's long-running, critically acclaimed, and best selling Resident Evil series has been commissioned, and that the project will be overseen by Supernatural series co-showrunner Andrew Dabb, and produced by Constantin Film.
As revealed by Netflix, once Dabb wraps up the delayed final season of the CW's Supernatural, he is expected to shift his focus to the new Resident Evil live-action series — which will consist of 8 episodes. Interestingly enough, and this is great news for fans of Capcom's survival horror series, Dabb reveals that he himself is a huge Resident Evil fan.
"Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time. I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world," Dabb revealed, while also adding "For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before."
In regards to the premise of this new live-action Resident Evil series, Netflix has revealed that it will be focused on original characters Jade and Billie Wesker, two 14-year-old sisters who have been moved to New Raccoon City; where the series' story will be told across two timelines.
The following is Netflix's official description of the upcoming live-action Resident Evil series:
"The Netflix series will tell its new story across two timelines. In the first, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world. The second, more than a decade into the future sees less than 15 million people left on Earth. And more than 6 billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world, while the secrets from her past — about her sister, her father and herself — continue to haunt her."
It is unknown whether Jade and Billie Wesker are related to Albert Wesker or even Alex Wesker — because no, they are not confirmed to be Albert Wesker's daughters — but it will definitely be an interesting mystery in and of itself; after all, the Weskers have always been mysterious, and deceitful characters — which is exactly what makes them so interesting in the first place.
