Capcom has recently update their Platinum Titles website, revealing that the critically acclaimed Resident Evil VII: Biohazard has now become the best-selling title in the Resident Evil series, with a very impressive 7.9 million copies sold as of the 30th of June.

Some of you may remember that the best-selling title in Capcom's long-running survival horror series was Resident Evil 5, but Resident Evil VII: Biohazard has also managed to take the first place from the more action-oriented title. Resident Evil 5 is still a strong contender, though, with an equally impressive 7.7 million units sold since its original release in 2009.

The good news for the first-person Resident Evil title don't end there, as these sales numbers also position Resident Evil VII: Biohazard as Capcom's second best-selling game of all time, losing out to the critically acclaimed, and best-selling Monster Hunter: World; a game that has sold over an impressive 16.1 million copies since January of 2018.

For those of you wondering, Resident Evil 6 is the company's 4th best-selling title with 7.6 million copies sold, followed by Resident Evil 2 remake with 7.2 million units sold. Interestingly enough, Capcom's Top 5 best-selling games of all time has 4 Resident Evil titles in it.

With Resident Evil Village on the way, it is very likely that either Resident Evil 2 or Resident Evil 6 will be left out of the Top 5; my money is on Resident Evil 6, since it is the one that was more poorly received out of the two, and Resident Evil 2 was barely released a year and a half ago.

Regardless, it is nice to see the Resident Evil series being as prominent as it is, and Resident Evil VII: Biohazard becoming Capcom's second best-selling game of all time is a very pleasant surprise. Hopefully Capcom will take advantage of this momentum and keeps giving the series the attention it rightfully deserves after Resident Evil Village releases.

Fear and isolation seep through the walls of an abandoned southern farmhouse. '7' marks a new beginning for survival horror with the “Isolated View” of the visceral new first-person perspective. Powered by the RE Engine, horror reaches incredible heights of immersion as players enter a terrifyingly new world of fear as they fight to survive.

Resident Evil VII: Biohazard is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox one, and PC(Steam)
