Netflix has been developing a serialized adaptation of the classic horror video game franchise Resident Evil, and they've finally revealed the premiere date!

Will the Netflix series finally give the fans what they've been craving and do the vidoe games justice? We'll find out on July 14th 2022 when the Resident Evil series begins streaming on Netflix.

The full cast of the live-action series was recently revealed during "Geeked Week". Lance Reddick (John Wick, The Wire, Godzilla Vs. Kong) is set to portray the villainous Albert Wesker, who was introduced in the very first Resident Evilgame before going on to become one of the franchise's primary antagonists. Reddick will be joined by Ella Balinska (Charlie's Angels), Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl), Siena Agudong (No Good Nick), Adeline Rudolph (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Paola Núñez (The Purge) in undisclosed roles.

Supernatural showrunner Andrew Dabb has been enlisted to oversee the first season, which will include 8 episodes.

"Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time," Dabb said back when the series was first announced. "I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before."

Here are the three posters that Netflix released today, as well as an updated synopsis for the live-action adaptation.

Resident Evil Synopsis: The Netflix series will tell its new story across two timelines. In the first, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world.

The second, more than a decade into the future sees less than 15 million people left on Earth. And more than 6 billion monsters people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world, while the secrets from her past about her sister, her father and herself continue to haunt her.

Resident Evil, known in Japan as Biohazard, is a Japanese horror video game series and media franchise created by Capcom comprised of survival horror, third-person shooter, and first-person shooter games. The franchise has since expanded into various mediums including live-action films, animated films, television series, comic books, novels, audio dramas, and more.

The first Resident Evil was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara. It was released for the PlayStation in 1996. Resident Evil has been credited for defining the survival horror genre and returning zombies to popular culture. Resident Evil 4, released in 2005, shifted its focus to more dynamic shooting and action. It has had a very strong influcence in the evolution of survival horror and third-person games, popularizing the "over-the-shoulder" third-person view. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017) saw Capcom move the series to a first-person perspective.

Resident Evil is Capcom's best-selling video game franchise, with 123 million units sold worldwide as of December 2021. It is the best-selling horror game series. The film adaptations are also the highest-grossing live-action video game film series, making Resident Evil the highest-grossing franchise in the horror and zombie genres.
