Upcoming MARVEL Games Will Not Be Tied To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

That trailer for Square Enix's Avengers game may have reminded you of the movies, but don't expect any of the upcoming Marvel Games titles to be linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in any way...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may be leaps and bounds ahead of the DC Films Universe, but when it comes to video games, Warner Bros. has Marvel beat. Well, for now at least. Marvel Games is pushing ahead with a lot of new titles, including Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and a title revolving around The Avengers

However, while #EverythingIsConnected, don't expect these to be forcibly tied to what's currently happening on the big screen.

"It’s a bit like we’re saying, ‘Hey you’re the chef, you’re going to make this meal.
Here’s all of the ingredients. You pick the ingredients that you like and make a new meal,’" Marvel Games creative director Bill Rosemann tells IGN of the decision to have these games take place in their own worlds without having to link up with each other or the movies. "We want all of our games to tell an original, all new story."

This is a decision which makes sense, particularly when you think back to the awful titles which linked up to Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor. Very little is known about what Marvel Games has in store for us for the time being, but with any luck, more details on their plans will be revealed in the near future.
