Sony and Insomniac Games'
Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4 will become canon in new Marvel Comics Spider-Man event titled
Spidergeddon—coming this fall.
Spidergeddon will be some sort of a follow-up to Dan Slott's 2014
Spider-Verse event that had several Spider-Men/Women crossing over from different universes to fight Morlun and his family—the Inheritors. In this event, Insomniac Games'
Spider-Man will be making an appearance, thus becoming canon in the eyes of the comics. The event will feature illustrations by Clayton Crain(Ghost Rider, Carnage) and will be written by Christos Gage, who has written for Netflix's Daredevil, The Amazing Spider-Man, and is also one of the writers in Insomniac's
Spider-Man.
As reported by
Polygon, the event will begin with
Spidergeddon #0 drawn by Clayton Crain(Ghost Rider, Carnage) and will be written by Christos Gage, who has written for Netflix's Daredevil, The Amazing Spider-Man, and is also one of the writers in Insomniac's
Spider-Man. Insomniac Games' Spider-Man will be teaming up with other Spider-Heroes to fight a yet-to-be-revealed threat and is reported to debut in
Spidergeddon #0 a few weeks after the game has been released.
Gage told Polygon that now was the perfect time to bring the game's character into
Spidergeddon since he has been writing for Insomniac's
Spider-Man for the past three years.
"
There are other reasons based in character that make some of the interactions between him[Marvel's Spider-Man Peter Parker] and other Spider-folks really juicy and interesting", said Gage being careful not to reveal too much and end up spoiling the game.
He also said that it will fit well in the story and is in no way "
a shoehorning of the character in where he doesn't belong", saying also that it will be an important next step for Insomniac's Spider-Man. "
We'll also try to avoid huge spoilers for anyone who may read the comic before finishing the game", said Gage while also revealing that
Spidergeddon actually takes place after the events of the game.
Spidergeddon #0 will be available digitally on the
26th of September while Insomniac Games'
Spider-Man will be available digitally and physically on the
7th of September. The event is also featuring a series of variant covers drawn by the artists at Insomniac Games, each paying homage to classic Amazing Spider-Man covers. Below you can check out the cover for
Spidergeddon #0 by Clayton Crain.
