Despite lackluster reviews for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Warner Bros. Games opening admitting it was a commercial failure, developer Rocksteady is pressing on with its live-service updates. The developer took to social media this week to share a roadmap for the game's upcoming content, which includes the launch of Season 2 next week.
Season 2 of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will begin on July 11th and will once again consist of two episodes: "Episode 3: Frozen Hearts" and "Episode 4: Winter". The roadmap confirms previous leaks that Mrs. Freeze will join the game as a new playable character.
Based on the teaser, Mrs. Freeze appears to be a gender-swapped Elseworlds version of Mr. Freeze, presumably with similar ice-based abilities. In the comics, Mrs. Freeze is Nora Fries, the wife of Mr. Freeze who suffers from terminal illness and was cryogenically frozen until Mr. Freeze could develop a cure. While she is eventually cured, she becomes a supervillain known as Mrs. Freeze.
The post from Rocksteady doesn't go into details, but previous leaks have suggested Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s version of Mrs. Freeze will reportedly be Victoria Fries, an original character from an alternate universe.
Alongside the new character, Episode 3 and Episode 4 will introduce new collectibles, skins, and weapons. The new Infamy Set appears to be inspired by Killer Frost, while the Notorious Gear represents Firefly. Captain Cold, Icicle, and Trickster are also receiving themed tie-in weapons.
"Episode 3: Frozen Hearts" will kick off Season 2 of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, while "Episode 4: Winter" will arrive as the mid-season update. The roadmap doesn't extend beyond Season 2 but the future of the game will likely depend on the financial success of this new content.
Troubled by development woes and delayed multiple times, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League officially released in February 2024. The game was met with mixed to poor reviews and currently sits at a 60/100 Metascore. The User Scores, however, are much more negative. Most of the criticism stems from the repetitive gameplay loop and tiresome mechanics. The game was also heavily criticized for its live-service elements.
Ultimately, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League proved to be a massive financial failure for Warner Bros. Discovery whose chief financial officer confirmed that the game had failed to meet the company's sales expectations. It was later revealed that Warner Bros. had taken a $200 million loss on the game.
From Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible to save the world: Kill the Justice League.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
