Developer Fuse Games has shared a new trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer, showcasing their high-stakes, high-octane racing game. First announced during The Game Awards 2025 back in December, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is described as a "high-stakes reinvention of racing born in the lawless Outer Rim of the Star Wars Galaxy."
Heavily inspired by the podracing sequence from Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a spiritual succesor to the 1999 classic Star Wars: Episode 1: Racer. Of course, gaming has come a long way since then, and Galactic Racer appears to have much more grit and depth to it.
At its core, Galactic Racer is a runs-based racing game. The developers at Fuse Games are former co-founders and lead developers from Criterion, best known for beloved racers Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.
Back in December, Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webste explained, “We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League. Along the way you’ll compete with rivals, journey to new planets, and master different classes of repulsor craft — or speeders — each with their own distinct capabilities."
The trailer showcases the many different planets you'll be racing across and the variety of vehicles you'll have access to. As previously detailed, each world will present its own unique challenges and will feature branching routes, varied environments, and dynamic risk-reward choices that ensures no two runs are alike.
We also get a glimpse of the game's narrative, where you'll step in to the role of Shade, "a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge." I suspect a "story trailer" will elaborate a bit more on Shade at a later date, but for now we only know that Shade has arrived to the Galactic League, and is looking for "a shot at reclaiming destiny."
“Players will learn more about Shade as they progress through the game’s campaign. Your aim is to survive long enough to earn your shot at becoming an elite racing pilot,” Webster previously teased. “Our races are high-stakes competitions where racers do everything they can to get to the front in the solo campaign and in our awesome multiplayer gameplay.”
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is still targeting a 2026 launch, and will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store).
