Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic wasn't the only Star Wars game announced during The Game Awards 2025. One of the biggest surprises during the show on Thursday was the announcement of a new Star Wars racing game, Star Wars: Galactic Racer.

Currently in development at Fuse Games, a studio founded in 2023 by former co-founders and lead developers at Criterion, best known for beloved racers Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a "runs-based, high stakes reinvention of racing born in the outer rim."

"The Empire’s grip on the galaxy has finally broken, and with its fall comes a new obsession: speed. As the New Republic struggles to rebuild - gambling, entertainment, and glory fuel a booming underground," the game's details tease. "Out of this chaos, the Galactic League is born: an unsanctioned racing circuit where syndicates sponsor pilots, fortunes are won and lost in seconds, and only the bold survive."

While longtime fans may be familiar with Star Wars: Episode 1: Racer, the classic 1999 racing game inspired by Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace's podracing sequence, Star Wars: Galactic Racer seems to have much more grit and depth to it, both in story and gameplay.

The trailer introduces us to Shade, "a lone racer with a dream of glory and revenge."

“Players will learn more about Shade as they progress through the game’s campaign. Your aim is to survive long enough to earn your shot at becoming an elite racing pilot,” explained  Fuse Games co-founder Matt Webster. “Our races are high-stakes competitions where racers do everything they can to get to the front in the solo campaign and in our awesome multiplayer gameplay.”

The trailer showcases a variety of vehicles, including all types of landspeeders and speederbikes, racing across new and iconic planets such as Jakku and Ando Prime. Each world will present its own unique challenges and will feature branching routes, varied environments, and dynamic risk-reward choices that ensures no two runs are alike.

“We’ve drawn real inspiration from runs-based games so the player will have meaningful, consequential decisions to be making on how they chose their path to become an elite racing pilot — from the vehicle they choose to start with, the upgrade choices they make to create a build that really suits their playstyle and what events they select in determining their path to become champion of the League,” Webster said. “Along the way you’ll compete with rivals, journey to new planets, and master different classes of repulsor craft — or speeders — each with their own distinct capabilities."

Players will forge alliances and make rivals along the way to becoming an elite racing pilot. There are multiple repulsor craft classes to choose from, each with distinct handling and tactical advantages. As you complete runs, you'll unlock new abilities to further customize your build.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is slated to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC (Steam and the Epic Games Store).
