Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Speeds to Launch on September 25 With Massive Roster and Travel Ring Mechanics
During the Summer Game Fest 2025 livestream, SEGA officially announced Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the next evolution in Sonic’s high-speed racing adventures. Set to launch September 25, 2025, the game will be available both digitally and physically on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and all Nintendo Switch platforms with a Nintendo Switch 2 version arriving later.
To celebrate the reveal, SEGA debuted a new trailer filled with high-octane gameplay and dimension-hopping chaos. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds introduces Travel Rings, a new gameplay mechanic that lets players warp between dimensions mid-race, shaking up the competition with each twist and turn. With 23 playable characters, 24 base tracks, and 15 alternate CrossWorlds zones, the game is set to be the largest and most customizable Sonic racer ever.
Crazy Crossover Characters
The character roster includes Sonic fan-favorites as usual. However they have also announced that they will include some never been seen and unexpected characters to join the roster with SEGA all-stars like Joker and Kasuga Ichiban, and even guest stars like Hatsune Miku and Steve + Creeper from Minecraft. Characters from the Netflix series Sonic Prime including Knuckles the Dread, Rusty Rose, and Tails Nine will also join the race in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
Game Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses
The Standard Edition (digital or physical) starts at £64.99 for current-gen consoles and PC, and £54.99 for Switch platforms. Pre-ordering either edition includes a bonus Sonic the Werehog character, custom vehicle, and decal set inspired by Sonic Unleashed™.
The Digital Deluxe Edition (£79.99 on most platforms) grants three-day early access, the full Season Pass, and exclusive content like Sonic Prime racers. Notably, early access is unavailable on all Nintendo Switch platforms.
