Following the underwhelming launch sales of
Overkill's The Walking Dead, Starbreeze has announced that some major improvements are coming to the multiplayer-only title with the inclusion of Season 2 that's bringing new missions, weapons, and characters to the core experience. The performance of
TWD is “to be or not to be” for Starbreeze, that is now preparing for a very difficult period.
According to Games Industry, Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint is stepping down, with Mikael Nermark acting as CEO until a full replacement is found. "
In this phase, Starbreeze needs a different kind of leadership and we have therefore decided to ask Mikael Nermark to take on the full responsibility with our full mandate for this new phase," said Starbreeze chairman Michael Hjorth.
That's just the beginning of the upcoming changes at the development studio responsible for
The Chronicles of Riddick and
The Darkness series, as Starbreeze is filing with the Stockholm District Court for "reconstruction." "
The decision is based on a shortage of liquidity and deemed to be a necessary step to give the Company the time needed to negotiate a long-term financial solution and implement changes in the organization and operations," Starbreeze said.
Naturally, Starbreeze's financial targets for Q4 2018 and 2020 are no longer relevant. When it comes to the post-launch support of
Overkill's The Walking Dead, the game's PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports scheduled to release in February, and
Payday 3, nothing has officially changed just yet and
TWD's new content will be released regularly after launch, with more detail to follow with each update.
OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four player co-op action FPS, where you and your friends fight the dead as well as the living. Set in The Walking Dead Universe, you and your group tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. Each character has their own Special Abilities, Skill Trees, Squad Roles, Play Styles and Story Arcs, but teamwork is paramount. The action is close-up and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing with your choice of each class firearms. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.
Overkill's The Walking Dead is available on PC NOW, as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have been pushed back to February.
