THE WALKING DEAD License Holder Parts Ways With Starbreeze And Cancels OVERKILL’S TWD

The Overkill’s The Walking Dead saga is slowly coming to an end. Today, Skyblound Games, the license holder of The Walking Dead games (and a part of Robert Kirkman’s Skyblound Entertainment), officially announced that their collaboration with Starbreeze Studios on Overkill’s The Walking Dead is over.

It looks like even the undead can't live forver, as Skyblound "have terminated our contract with Starbreeze Studios and will discontinue all efforts on Overkill’s The Walking Dead,” the company said in a press release. “Our creators and their stories are the core of Skybound, and since 2014 we have worked hard to expand the world of The Walking Dead into an exceptional Co-op Action FPS."

We did our best to work with Starbreeze and resolve many issues that we saw with the game, but ultimately Overkill’s The Walking Dead did not meet our standards nor is it the quality that we were promised. We are exceedingly sorry to our fans and share their disappointment in the game. We remain dedicated to providing our fans with the most premium quality content we can offer, and will continue to look for alternative video game options for the IP," the studio concluded.

Considering that Overkill's The Walking Dead was reportedly developed in less than 18 months, it's not surprising that its PC version received mixed reviews at launch, sitting at a mediocre 51% score on Metacritic. The fact that Skyblound has taken away the license from Starbreeze suggests that the game's post-launch support has been canceled as well, not to mention the long-delayed console ports.

OVERKILL’s The Walking Dead is a four player co-op action FPS, where you and your friends fight the dead as well as the living. Set in The Walking Dead Universe, you and your group tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. Each character has their own Special Abilities, Skill Trees, Squad Roles, Play Styles and Story Arcs, but teamwork is paramount. The action is close-up and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing with your choice of each class firearms. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.

Overkill's The Walking Dead is available for PC NOW; the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions have been pushed back indefinitely (and seemingly canceled).
