Last week, it was reported that Telltale Games, developer of episodic games
The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, and many more,
is shutting down. The
studio confirmed the reports, acknowledging that just a small skeleton crew of 25 employees would stay on board to help "fulfill the company's obligations to its board and partners." Unfortunately,
The Walking Dead: The Final Season didn't appear to be part of those "obligations," and the last season in the long-running series is
set to end after just the second episode. Or maybe not.
With episode 2 releasing tomorrow, September 25, Telltale issued a statement on social media. The developer revealed that they have been speaking with
"multiple potential partners" who have an interest in helping see through the completion of
The Final Season. Telltale revealed they are
"actively working towards a solution that will allow episodes 3 and 4 to be completed and released in some form."
For fans who have been playing since the beginning, this is obviously some exciting news as it means we can finally get a fitting conclusion for Clementine's story. But it doesn't necessarily mean it will come in the form of playable episodes. As Telltale acknowledged, the story would be told "in some form," meaning episodes 3 and 4 could release as a small cinematic or even a digital comic book. It may not be the way many fans envisioned the story ending, but at least we could get a fitting conclusion - even if we might not be able to play it.
In the meantime, episode 2 of
The Walking Dead: The Final Season will be available tomorrow across all platforms.
