One of the stars of the show at this year's E3 event was
Watch Dogs Legion. Ubisoft began their press conference, by unveiling the third instalment of the open-world series with a full-on gameplay demonstration. During this demo, an interesting and ambitious aspect of the game was revealed in that essentially every character you come across in the game is capable of becoming a playable character.
You're able to indoctrinate people into your hacking group and thus literally take control of them. An awesome example of this featured in the afformentioned demo - it involved an 80-year-old woman taking down opposers with a stun gun. If you haven't already seen it, you can check out that gameplay demonstration at the bottom of this article.
With the amount of playable characters up for grabs, there will naturally be a ton of variation in terms of the game's story - meaning that your playthrough will essentially be unlike anyone else's. Clint Hocking, the creative director of
Watch Dog Legion, recently discussed this topic with
Gamesradar wherein he revealed that there are upwards of twenty versions of the game's script.
There’s no dude on the box who’s there to start all the cinematics and the people you recruit are just the supporting cast. There are 20 different versions of Legion’s script, and I don’t just mean people saying the same lines. We’re talking different characters, different personas, different voices, different acting. We’re using technology to alter all the voices so that even if you happen to recruit Joe and John and they have the same actor and the same personality when they talk to each other, you won’t know it’s the same actor because we modulate the voices. We used photogrammetry to capture dozens of different faces, which have been combined using innovative animation techniques to produce literally thousands of unique heads.
This all sounds quite ambitious and that is certainly in-line with everything else that we've seen and heard about the upcoming third instalment in the
Watch Dogs series.
"Whether you choose some suave, sophisticated secret agent dude, or some 80-year-old lady that you saw feeding pigeons in the park, your story is going to be uniquely yours," Hocking added.
Watch Dogs Legion is set to release on March 6th, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.
