A brand-new entry in the long-neglected — although recently somewhat revived — Crash Bandicoot series may be officially announced by Activision rather sooner than later, as the game seems to have been unofficially confirmed by a video game rating system in Taiwan.
According to the information shared on Gamerating.org.tw, the name of this brand-new title is Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, and would be releasing for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. This information also reveals that Activision would be publishing the title, and Toys for Bob would be the developer in charge of this new game.
Toys for Bob has already worked on the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, so they are familiar with platformer games, so this new entry in the Crash Bandicoot series may be more 3D oriented than the original trilogy, which was more like a 2D platformer played in 3D, rather than an open world in 3D.
As if that news didn't get you excited already for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time — and you better believe it's about time — we also got a synopsis for the upcoming title, which also suggests that this game could be a direct sequel to Crash Bandicoot: Warped; setting the events in 1998, which is when the third game in the series was released.
Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible.
With this unofficial announcement, thanks to the Taiwanese ratings board, we also have a our first look at the cover for Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, which sees our titular hero Crash, his sister Coco, and four unfamiliar masks that surround the game's title. Now all we need is for Activision and Toys for Bob to officially make the announcement, release a proper trailer, and give us an official release date.
