Marvel's Avengers launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC back in August. Did you notice? Nevertheless, what with the next-generation set to kick off in less than a month's time; Marvel's Avengers was expected to make the jump to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S later this year. Alas, it doesn't seem like that will be happening anymore.

Crystal Dynamics, the developers of the superhero game, have confirmed in a statement that they shared the Square Enix blog earlier today that; Marvel's Avengers will no longer come to next-generation consoles later this year but rather in 2021. You can check out said statement for yourself here.

The studio claims that they're making this move in order to ensure that they alot themselves enough time to properly deliver a next-gen experience.

"We’ve also made the decision to shift our PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launch to next year to ensure that we give our team the time to deliver a next-gen experience showcasing all that this game is meant to be. More details to come," reads the message.

Not only have the next-generation versions of Marvel's Avengers been delayed but the first free post-launch content drop, which will introduce Hawkeye's successor Kate Bishop, has been pushed out of this month to a later date.

Marvel's Avengers will be playable on next-generation consoles via backwards compatibility. Crystal Dynamics promise to improve frame rate and speed up load times. Cross-generation play will also be available.

Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

Marvel's Avengers is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC.

Marvel's Avengers is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2021.
