Following the Alice: Madness Returns underperformance, many fans of American McGee's work have been wondering if EA would finally green-light the third chapter in the twisted series. A year ago, McGee announced that he's working on Alice 3 and asked the community to spread the word via their social media to urge the publisher to let the director finish his trilogy - or at least license the rights.

It looks like that strategy has worked perfectly, at McGee revealed on his blog today that Alice: Asylum has entered the pre-production phase. According to McGee, “Alice: Asylum will present the story before American McGee’s Alice, with young Alice fighting through the trauma of losing her family."

Just like the original and its 2011 sequel, Alice: Asylum will be a third-person psychological horror action-adventure platform video game. It seems that McGee has changed his mind since last year's announcement and Asylum won't conclude the story, but rather tell what happened before the main events of American McGee’s Alice. The game will launch in 2021 on "all major platforms" and PC.
