While Sere Enix's latest collaboration with an independent developer,
The Quiet Man, turned out to be one of the worst-reviewed video games of the year, the Japanese company has decided to start a brand new partnership. Square Enix has become a 20% shareholder in Bulkhead Interactive, creators of
The Turing Test and
Battalion 1944, two games that were released under Square Enix's Collective label.
According to Games Industry, Bulkhead has already started developing a brand new IP that will be published by Enix. "
I'm really excited that we're taking this step to deepen our partnership with the team at Bulkhead," said Square Enix Collective head Phil Elliott.
"From the first meeting we had back in 2015 it was clear to me that the team had a great deal of potential, and we're really looking forward to helping them continue to unlock that in the years to come."
Currently, Bulkhead has two studios: Bulkhead Dark Horse and Bulkhead Phoenix. The fact that the titles Bulkhead has worked on in the past included a puzzle title and shooter, it will be interesting to see what they will craft with Square’s support. As a reminder, Square has also signed a deal with the
Bulletstorm and
Painkiller creators People Can Fly that are developing a new shooter for the publisher.
