Last year, almost at this time, the news was confirmed: Mass Effect Andromeda canceled its downloadable content plans post-release due to the sales failure and the harsh criticism received. The title, accused of being mediocre and not honoring the saga, received a warm welcome from the public and specialized press.
BioWare cut all the plans for the game and decided to focus on other things. Now, the studio confirms to US Gamer that they will not be in the same situation with Anthem. The team reaffirms the support and commitment to the new game.
“We don’t have to wait for full expansions anymore like our previous games, let alone other games in the [live service] space. If you look at Dragon Age or Mass Effect you’d have to wait for three, four, five, six months sometimes between big updates. We don’t have to abide by that anymore. We can actually, week-over-week, trickle out content," producer Mike Gamble told US Gamer about Anthem support.
As confirmed in previous interviews, they have been inspired by Fortnite and their example to keep the community engaged.
At the same time, he apologizes loudly for the failure of the support and post-launch content of Mass Effect: Andromeda and the failures committed by BioWare. The title had scheduled chapters of the campaign and more multiplayer support, but it was not materialized by the commercial blow of the video game.
According to comments, these DLC were raised in an advanced stage of the development of the main game and that mistake will never be committed again. In Anthem they have thought about them from the very beginning of the title.
“I can speak conclusively when it comes to Andromeda, the [post-launch] plans were never in place the way that they are for Anthem. The systems and tools weren’t in place to support the long-term plans, it was never like [Anthem] — never had a good, solid foundation to start from with that. Where with Anthem [post-launch] is a part of it. The job does not end on February 22. It only begins for us, really," he concluded.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
