With E3 cancelled this year, IGN stepped up to fill the void with its Summer of Gaming Expo, an all digital event featuring trailers, announcements, interviews, and more. Among the highlights was the announcement that Chivalry 2, a sequel to 2012's Chivalry Medieval Warfare, will be coming to consoles.

Chivalry 2 is a first-person brawler that thrusts players into the action of chaotic medieval battles. The sequel adds a bit more variation in its gameplay by dividing the four classes of fighters into subclasses, allowing for increased hero customization.

First announced at 2019's E3 for PC (as an Epic Games Store exclusive), Chivalry 2 is currently in closed alpha. A newly released trailer today not only showcased more gameplay, but confirmed the new platforms: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. It will also have crossplay enabled across all platforms.

"The epic medieval battles in Chivalry 2 deserve an equally massive player-base," Torn Banner president Steve Piggott said in the press release. "We can't wait for gamers across the world on all five platforms to clash steel and experience the greatest melee combat system ever, together."

Chivalry 2 is expected to release in 2020 and it will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One alongside the previously announced PC version later this year. Players can sign up to join the ongoing alpha now on PC.

The next-gen console versions do not yet have a release date. Both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are expected to launch this holiday season but neither Microsoft nor Sony have announced specific dates.
