Earlier today, we were all surprised during Nintendo's Nindies showcase, which revealed that Studio MDHR's acclaimed run-and-gun platformer
Cuphead would be releasing on the Nintendo Switch on the
18th of April.
Up until today, Studio MDHR's
Cuphead was an Xbox One console exclusive, which is exactly why everyone was so surprised when the game was announced for the Nintendo Switch; although, lately, Nintendo and Microsoft have been playing very well together.
The good news don't end there, however, as we now have confirmation that
Cuphead will be getting a physical release for both the Xbox one and Nintendo Switch versions of the game — as confirmed by Resetera user "Teeth", who works at Studio MDHR.
Physical copies of
Cuphead will not be releasing on the same day as the Nintendo Switch version, but at a later date; once the DLC drops so that everything can be added into the final product. According to Teeth, they're also considering adding some extra content in the game's case, so that players can look forward to it even more.
Teeth's reply on Resetera reads as follows:
"Physical versions, yes! On Xbox and Switch...not sure about PC (cuz who buys physical PC games?)
They'll come after the DLC drops so that everything will be patched up and on disk as the final final FINAL version of Cuphead.
We're looking into what we want to do with the physical versions (there'll probably be some goodies in the case), and as with all Cuphead things, it'll take some time. But they'll exist...eventually."
Cuphead is a classic run-and-gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.
Cuphead will be available for the Nintendo Switch on the 18th of April.
