Universal Games and publisher Outright Games announced today DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders, a new video game inspired by the popular DreamWorks Dragons universe.
DreamWorks Animation's 2010 film How to Train Your Dragon actually inspired the DreamWorks Dragons computer-animated television series, which serves as a bridge between the first movie and its 2014 sequel. The game will introduce the heroic duo, Scribbler and Patch, as they embark on an adventure to save dragons and defeat the new villain, Eir, who is controlling dragons to carry out her evil plans.
"They'll clash against fierce enemies, explore new and familiar locations and interact with favorite characters in this fun and fiery action adventure," the press release teases.
Throughout the game, players will help Scribbler recover lost memories and forge a friendship with his unique hybrid dragon, Patch. Players will have to swap between the two characters to solve puzzles and obstacles and unlock powerful abilities. The game will also include both new and familiar locations, including Havenholme, Valka's Mountain and Blood Briar Island.
"DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will take players on a new adventure that brings together a poignant tale of friendship, mysterious new characters and mystical locations," said Chris Heatherly, Executive Vice President of Games and Digital Platforms, Universal Brand Development. "As the film trilogy reaches its' epic conclusion, this new game will allow fans to deepen their connection with a world that has touched so many lives for almost a decade."
Developed by Climax Studios, DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will release in February 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Its launch will coincide with the release of DreamWorks Animation's How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which releases February 22, 2019.
