Avalanches Studios has announced Generation Zero, the first self-published project in the history of the Just Cause and Mad Max developer. Their latest game features a vast open world, rendered with the award-winning Apex engine, a full day/night cycle with unpredictable weather, complex AI behavior, simulated ballistics, highly realistic acoustics and most importantly - a dynamic 1980’s soundtrack.

Generation Zero can be played alone or with up to three of your friends in the co-op multiplayer mode. In this reimagining of 1980’s Sweden, hostile machines have invaded the serene countryside, and you need to fight back while unravelling the mystery of what has happened. By utilizing battle tested guerilla tactics, you’ll be able to lure, cripple, or destroy enemies in intense sandbox skirmishes.

The explosive announcement trailer is apparently all in-engine footage and gives us a small taste of the strategic combat and exploration gameplay that we can expect to experience, and all this whilst unravelling the mystery of exactly what is going on. Generation Zero will hit the stores next year and will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Take a look:
