Because the marketing material for Fallout 76 brandished the generic "PC game" logo, many of us already assumed the highly anticipated game wouldn't be launching on Steam.
Speculation was further fueled when the official B.E.T.A. FAQ page said the beta would only be available "on PC (via Bethesda.net)," and now it's been confirmed that Fallout 76 will be eschewing Valve's popular Steam platform.
"The PC version of Fallout 76, for both the B.E.T.A. and the launch, will be available only via Bethesda.net, not on Steam," Bethesda explained to PC Gamer via email.
While no reason has been given for this decision, it's likely the developer doesn't want to give up 30% to Steam. That said, there's still a chance the latest installment in the Fallout franchise will eventual come to Steam, as Bethesda did something similar with Quake Champions.
