Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm announced today that a a global esports program for the PlayStation 4 (sorry XBox One gamers). Cash prizes to the tune of $600,000 USD will be doled out across several tournaments. While details are still light, the Championship series will partner with ESL, Gamelta esports Professional League, GameStop, PlayStation 4 and Twitch to provide fair competition to both pro and amateur gamers in North America, Europe and Latin America.
The Pro Series kicks off May 26 on Twitch, with a four month season that whittles down professional competitors to the top 16, who will go on to compete for the championship at the Injustice 2 Pro Series Finals on September 17 in Los Angeles.
Operated by ESL, the Gamestop Hometown Heroes tournament allows amateur gamers to get in on the action at their local Gamestop.Online qualifier tournaments for this competition begin June 04. Eight regional finals take place before a grand winner is declared at the Injustice 2 GameStop Hometown Heroes Finals (that's a mouthful) at the 2017 GameStop Consumer Expo in Las Vegas on August 27.
