With less than two weeks to go until the launch of MultiVersus, Warner Bros. Games and developer Player First Games revealed a brand-new PvE mode.

Although MultiVersus is primarily a player-versus-player platform fighter, the new PvE mode, called "Rifts," will offer players a different way to experience the game.

Rifts will give players a break from the competitive nature of MultiVersus, allowing them to "travel the multiverse and fight their way through a series of encounters, flavored by wacky combat mutators and unique experiences."

Developer Player First Games explains:

Rifts Mode is a way for all players to play MultiVersus and progress their skills, outside of our competitive PVP modes. Each Rift will have a sequence of battles or challenges around a particular theme, whether it’s The Joker infiltrating the Batcave or Batman and Velma teaming up to decide who’s the best detective. These themes will be organized around seasonal “Attunements,” such as Chaos, for the Clown Prince of Crime that is joining our cast in season 1. The same way every MultiVersus battle is bubbling with character interactions, we wanted to make each Rift “Uniquely MultiVersus”, every season.

Rifts are divided into chapters, which are comprised of various nodes containing battles and challenges. Each node contains unique mutators for different combat scenarios. Each node objective that you complete will reward you with in-game items as well as gems, which can be used to raise character stats. Rifts will be updated "frequently" with fresh content, giving players some new to look forward to each season.

The PvE mode will begin with a special Tutorial Rift, but eventually, you'll be able to participate in Season Rifts with unique stages, skins, characters, and mutators. Rifts can be played entirely solo, or online in co-op with friends.

MultiVersus is a free-to-play platform fighter that features an ever-expanding roster of popular characters based on Warner Bros. Discovery franchises, including Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Black Adam, and The Joker (DC); Shaggy and Velma (Scooby-Doo); Bugs Bunny, Tasmanian Devil a.k.a. Taz, and Marvin the Martian (Looney Tunes); Arya Stark (Game of Thrones); Tom & Jerry (Tom and Jerry); Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, and Banana Guard (Adventure Time); Steven Universe and Garnet (Steven Universe); Iron Giant (The Iron Giant), LeBron James (Space Jam: A New Legacy); Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith (Rick and Morty); Gizmo and Stripe (Gremlins); and an extraordinary original creature named Reindog. It was recently revealed that Mark Hamill will be providing the voice of Joker, starring opposite the late Kevin Conroy as Batman.

The game is set to release on May 28th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Full cross-play and cross-progression will be supported.
