Final Fantasy XV main character Noctis has been part of the
Tekken 7 roster for a bit over a month now and we are still getting some interesting behind the scenes by the directors of both franchises and how they've struggled to bring this character to the
Tekken series while still keeping all of what made the character interesting in his own game.
Today, Bandai Namco has released a new behind the scenes video with game directors for
Tekken 7 and
Final Fantasy XV, Katsuhiro Harada and Hajime Tabata respectively, who sit down, once again, to talk about Noctis and how this collaboration handled the character joining the
Tekken 7 roster, how they proceeded to give him a specific martial art that fitted the that of the
Tekken franchise, and how they agreed to write dialogues for the
Final Fantasy XV character.
Hajime Tabata tells us that they left the
Tekken team, led by Mr. Harada, decide what Noctis' fighting style would be like in the game.
"
Mr. Harada has already spoken about this but the visual effects in Final Fantasy battles tend to be quite intense and elaborate with the player using mysterious powers to take down enemies."
Mr. Tabata mentions that when they were looking at the fine details of the project they just decided that the
Tekken team should decide on the martial art that Noctis should have given that the people over at
Final Fantasy have no knowledge about that.
"
What was important for the Final Fantasy XV team was to render Noctis in a way that FFXV fans would readily, and enthusiastically accept and support, and want to take into in battle where they could have fun going up against other characters."
Tekken 7's Mr. Harada mentions how extraordinary of a guest is Noctis making his first appearance in the fighting franchise and mentions how the trailer was also done in collaboration with the
Final Fantasy XV team.
"
As for the parts Bandai Namco and Square Enix worked on, respectively, our team handled the first scene until the point where you see Noctis, as I'm sure many of our players can tell. Square Enix handled the conversational scenes and they took it from there, from the point when Noctis leaves the gas station and talks to everyone. Then it's back to us for the following battle and fishing sequences."
Mr. Harada says that this is a very unusual thing for trailers to do and also mentions that the Square Enix team "
helped out a great deal with dialogues and lines" by holding the work to a high standard. He recalls the
FFXV team helping them by indicating them how Noctis should speak in certain situtions so that it was fitting to the character.
"
The dedication and attention to detail is how we arrived at the character we have now. The way we experimented and created here is quite uncommon. I think players will be able to see what I mean if they rewatch the trailer while keeping these aspects in mind."
Mr Tabata admits that he actually stopped playing
Tekken after the second game in the series and Noctis joining the game is "
a good impetus for me to come back to the series for Tekken 7. I want to play him as my character so I really wanted us to build a version of Noctis that would be really fun to play in Tekken. We were all determined and particular about accomplishing this."
Tekken 7 represents the final chapter of the 20-year-long Mishima feud. Unveil the epic ending to the emotionally charged family warfare between the members of the Mishima Clan as they struggle to settle old scores and wrestle for control of a global empire, putting the balance of the world in peril.
Tekken 7 is available now for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
